It seems that there are people in my life, whether alive or not, who will always influence events which happen around me. In this case, I was invited to perform at a memorial for two special people who were taken by cancer. They were close to my mother and myself. Generous in so many ways, and that generosity still extends despite their passing. To my surprise, Frank Wess showed up and we performed together!! Here is “Au Privave” written by Charlie Parker. The Musicians are as follows:

Frank Wess (fl)

Michiyo Fisher (p)

Ron McClure (b)

Anthony Taddeo (d)

and

Its not often that we get to perform together as she lives in Tokyo and I live in NYC but she has a regular gig and the timing worked out wonderfully. Heres the Ray Henderson standard “Bye Bye Blackbird”. The musicians are as follows: Masa Bradley (P) Hirotane Takahashi (B) Shin-Ichi Okano (D)
Enjoy!
I had the extreme pleasure of playing a gig monday (2/21) with these fine musicians in the photograph above. Their names are as follows from left to right. Shin-Ichi Okano (d), Yukiko Tsurumaki (p), and Abe Izumi (b). We played in a little Jazz club in Tokyo’s Hongo Sanchome. Here’s the Matt Dennis standard “Everything Happens To Me” recorded live with the aforementioned musicians. Enjoy!

Here is another track off my demo recording session. It is a Gene de Paul tune called “You Don’t Know What Love Is”. The wonderful musicians are as follows:

Ron McClure (b)

Mike Eckroth (p)

Jimmy Madison (d)

I’ve had the pleasure of playing some really good music with friends of mine over the past few years. I’m very thankful to have them in my life and our journey together has led to two recordings. The most recent being our first LP “Bewilderness”.

Rooted in the sweaty dance floor revivals that have defined our shows in the last three years, “Bewilderness” serves up a dish with flavors cultivated amidst the band’s collective wanderings.

Check http://mamarazzi.bandcamp.com for some ear candy.

This one is a Cole Porter tune entitled “You’d be so nice to come home to”.

I’d like to dedicate this post to my beautiful Love, Hagarita. This piece has feelings embedded from a time before we were together, but now I can say that You ARE so nice to come home to motek!

PS Theres definitly more where this came from….

PPS Have a blessed tuesday

Happy Thanksgiving!

This time of year never ceases to fill my soul with a deep appreciation for what I have and how lucky I am. Now I say this at the risk of sounding like an egomaniac but please hear me out. I work in a hospital and I see people who don’t have a very easy time living. This experience has humbled me and made me realize that the ability to walk and breathe and live freely are such blessings. With this in mind, I try to enjoy the little things like sunsets and leaves changing.

We seem to live in a world where the things you don’t have are highlighted, when the truth of the matter is that all we need is right in front of us.

One of many blessings I received this year was a chance to play with world renowned drummer Jimmy Cobb! Heres a picture of us playing at the Jazz Gallery for a memorial service for our dear friend Marshall Fisher:

Marshall Fisher was immersed in the Jazz scene and knew many musicians including ex-wife Sarah Vaughn. He was a very good friend of my mother and I. May his soul forever rest in peace.

Today is also the birthday of my Grandmother Misa Asai. 85 years young and proud of it. Love you!

Stay tuned for future Jazz and mamarazzi gigs and tracks off of my demo with Mike Eckroth on piano, Ron McClure on bass, and Jimmy Madison on drums

"One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain."

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”

- Bob Marley

Letstacmusic.com, photo by Cole Ramstad

Letstacmusic.com, photo by Cole Ramstad
